OCR: Unlike the pupfish, the 2 inch-long topminnow Poeciliopsis occidentalis prefers springs and streams and lives around the southern Colorado river drainage area. Topminnows belong to the livebearing family Poeciliidae, found only in warmer parts of the Americas. Topminnows are more elongated than pupfish and are the only native fish in Arizona that give birth to live young. This fish was once common but was added to the endangered species list 11967
